Standard route buses travel to each part of Shiga Prefecture.
Use Ohmi Taxis to get around if there are only a few in your group.

When boarding from Hikone
By car: 4 km from the Hikone Interchange on the Meishin Expressway
By train: About 12 minutes by taxi from the West Exit of JR Maibara Station
By train: About 10 minutes by free shuttlebus from the West Exit of JR Hikone Station

Around Chikubushima, one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa
Chikubushima, with its richly verdant scenery, is considered one of the Eight Views of Lake Biwa.
It is about 40 minutes from Hikone Port. You can spend 70 minutes on the island, for a two and a half hour cruise in total.
600 cherry trees blossom along about 4 km of the lake's coast.
600 Somei-yoshino cherry trees, all over 60 years old, bloom for some 4 km along the lake coast.

Hachimanyama Ropeway: Visit a temple rebuilt here from Kyoto and castle ruins on the top of a mountain
It takes about 4 minutes from the foot to the peak. The cable cars run every 15 minutes.
By car: 12 km from the Ryuo Interchange on the Meishin Expressway, 16 km from the Yokaichi Interchange, and 26 km from the Hikone Interchange.
By train: 7 minutes on the bus heading towards Chomeiji temple from Omi-Hachiman Station on the JR Tokaido Main Line (Biwako Line), then get off at Osugi-cho and continue 5 minutes on foot.
The old castle town and Lake Biwa
From the peak you can enjoy a vast panorama, taking in Lake Biwa in the four seasons, Lake Nishinoko, and the old castle town.
Enjoy the red and gold leaves of autumn.
From Mid-November to Late November, the trees on the mountain show their autumn colors.
Shizugatake Lift: Head up to the peak of Mt. Shizugatake in Biwako Quasi-National Park for the best views of Lake Biwa
The Lift gets you to the top in 6 minutes.
By car: 1.5 km (about 3 minutes) from Kinomoto Interchange on the Hokuriku Expressway.
By train: 4 minutes by taxi from Kinomoto Station on the Hokuriku Main Line, or 8 minutes by bus (get off at Ooto).
